The temporary I-5 bridge over the Skagit River only reopened last week, but the state is closing down some lanes this weekend for a quick inspection.

After 10 days of traffic rolling over the temporary span, the state wants to make sure it’s still in good shape.

Engineers will be tightening bolts, checking the asphalt bridge deck, and looking for any damage to the guardrail.

They will be doing similar inspections every month that the temporary span is open. “This is just a quick little run-through to make sure everything is as tight as we want it, and the bridge is behaving exactly like we want it,” the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Travis Phelps said.

The state will be closing one lane in each direction between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
