A neighborhood group claimed a weekend event at Denny Blaine Park brought in a large crowd and lewd acts.

“The people who live in the area said there were probably a hundred people there; a lot of illegal and illicit activities that we have been asking the city to step in and stop happened; the masturbation, the sex acts, the rest of it,” said Lee Keller, a spokesperson for Denny Blaine Park for All.

She said some of the weekend event was captured by cameras from nearby homes, and footage is now uploaded on the Denny Blaine Park for All website.

“It’s a very unfriendly and scary way to live,” Keller said.

Following a lawsuit filed by Denny Blaine Park for All, a judge last month allowed the public park to remain open but ordered the City of Seattle to develop a plan to address overcrowding and safety concerns, and to crack down on improper behavior.

“It’s all left unchecked; the city is not doing anything about it,” Keller said.

Some beachgoers, like Nicole Ruiz, said they have a different experience.

“It’s very rare that you see anyone doing anything questionable, and if it does start to happen, it gets addressed right away, but that’s not typically an issue from what I’ve experienced,” Nicole Ruiz said.

Ruiz said she is disturbed to know neighbors are filming Denny Blaine Park.

“If you have it recording all the time, I’m sure there’s something that’s going to pop up,” Sean Cole said.

Cole said he comes to Denny Blaine Park several times a week and has not seen activity alleged by Denny Blaine Park for All.

Seattle Parks and Rec and the Seattle Police Department did not respond to KIRO 7’s request for comment.
