Increased patrols at South Seattle school following nearby shooting

Dec 17, 2014, 9:28 AM | Updated: 9:35 am

Police have beefed up patrols around Emerson Elementary in South Seattle after staff reported hearing nearby gunfire Wednesday morning.

Staff and students at the school, in the 9600 block of 60th Avenue S, briefly sheltered in place after calling 911 around 6:30 a.m.

Witnesses reported seeing a gold vehicle and possibly a Dodge flee the scene. The alarm was sounding and lights flashing on the gold vehicle.

Shell casings were recovered about a block from the school, but officers did not find any victims or damage.

Police don’t believe the school or students were targeted in the shooting.
