Fatal collision near Interbay shuts down Elliot Avenue

Mar 18, 2026, 6:13 AM | Updated: 10:43 am

A fatal collision near Interbay on Wednesday morning is currently under investigation by the Seattle Police Department (SPD).

At approximately 5:16 a.m., the collision occurred on Elliot Avenue W. at W. Galer Street, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) announced.

Street camera video obtained by KIRO 7 showed the vehicle speeding around a corner before crashing into a telephone pole.

As a result, all southbound lanes and the left northbound lane were blocked by the collision. One southbound lane has since reopened.

SDOT warned to use caution when traveling through the area and seek alternate routes.

At 5:43 a.m., all northbound lanes were cleared. All remaining lanes on the roadway continued to be blocked.

Shortly after the collision, SPD confirmed the crash was fatal and opened an investigation. The street was then closed again as SPD works through its investigation.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
