Josh Powell cremated, according to death certificate

Feb 21, 2012, 12:31 PM | Updated: 1:40 pm

After public outrage over where Josh Powell would be buried, his family had him cremated last Friday.

According to Powell’s death certificate, which was released by Inside Edition, Powell was cremated in Sumner on Feb. 17, nearly two weeks after he killed his two boys in a gas-fueled blaze at his rental home in Graham, Wash.

Health officials have confirmed the authenticity of the certificate with 97.3 KIRO FM.

The document does not say where his remains were taken, but Powell’s family said that he would not be laid to rest near his sons at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup, Wash.

The city manager in Puyallup had said that the family was considering burying Powell next to his boys, Braden and Charlie. But, the family reconsidered after a public uproar over the idea.

Powell was also a person of interest in his wife’s disappearance. Susan Cox Powell was reported missing from their Utah home in December 2009.
