Helicopter tips over while attempting rescue in Kittitas County

A helicopter landed on its side while attempting to transport a patient in Kittitas County.

The air ambulance was responding to a camper who was injured near Little Kachess Lake Tuesday night, the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies responded after the camper was reported missing around 8 p.m. They searched the area and found the man who was suffering from a significant cut.

Medics were called to the scene and determined air transport was necessary.

Deputies developed a landing zone in a gravel parking area off I-90 near exit 62.

Crew uninjured after helicopter overturns in Kittitas County

The Airlift Northwest helicopter arrived around 11 p.m. and tried to land but tipped on its right side. The crew was able to get out without any injuries or property damage other than to the chopper.

Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident.

The camper was taken by ambulance to a hospital in the Snoqualmie area.
