Some Lacey firefighters are being hailed as lifesavers after rescuing a family from a burning mobile home Friday. But they aren’t expecting thanks from the survivors – a family of hamsters.

Crews responding to the fire in the 6800 block of Martin Way quickly doused the flames but discovered the pets while battling the flames.

The firefighters grabbed the five rodents and quickly began treating them with oxygen.

A spokesman says they managed to save Oreo, Madonna and the three unnamed babies. Another hamster died.

How did crews know what to do? They turned to their trusty guide.

No humans were inside when the fire started and no one was injured battling the flames. The fire department says the fire appears to have started in the clothes dryer in the laundry room.
