Lake Stevens police are investigating after suspicious gumballs were handed out on Halloween.

On Friday morning, police said students at Cavelero Mid High School were speaking with their resource officer about candy they received Thursday night.

Police said Irwin was suspicious of some colorful gumballs that were inside a small plastic bag.

As a precaution, Irwin tested the gum balls with a Narcotic Identification Kit and police said the candy test showed “very preliminary results of PCP.”

Lake Stevens police noted that the Narcotic Identification Kit test are very preliminary and are a presumption.

Is it OK to bus trick-or-treaters into rich neighborhoods?

“False positives can occur with sugar-laced items because of the chemical reaction, that is why we are taking every precaution and sending the items to be tested at the WSP Crime Lab,” police said in a news release.

Irwin immediately notified the school’s administration.

Investigators said students who had the candy and ingested the gumballs were not showing immediate signs of ingesting PCP but were evaluated.

Police contacted the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab requesting assistance with testing the gumballs. Those results may be returned Saturday.

These are a couple of the gumballs that have white lettering “DUBBLE BUBBLE.”

Police said families or anyone else who received the gumballs, should call Lake Stevens police and reference case #2019-22890.
