Lone Cafe Racer shooting survivor returns home

Jun 11, 2012, 5:04 AM | Updated: 6:49 am

While people gathered outside Seattle’s Cafe Racer Sunday
to ring bells and honor the victims of the shooting that
left four people dead, the lone survivor was released from
the hospital and returned home to continue his recovery.

Leonard Meuse, 46, a cook at the cafe, was shot twice when
gunman Ian Stawicki opened fire last month.

Meuse’s parents say he’s tired but is making a strong
recovery.

One of the bullets shattered his jaw, broke some of his
teeth and severely damaged his tongue. The second bullet hit his armpit, piercing his lung and grazing several other organs.

His father says Meuse was happy to return home and be with his cat
Freya. Raymond Meuse released several photos showing his son
holding the cat while lying on the couch.

“Rest, that’s what he’s looking forward to for the next
few days,” the senior Meuse tells KING 5.

Meuse faces a long recovery, including likely procedures
to replace part of his jaw and teeth.

His parents says he is eager to go back to work as the
pastry chef at Cafe Racer.

“He wants to go back to work. He wants to go back to his
motorcycle riding,” says Raymond Meuse.
