Long debt history for alleged Lakewood PD embezzler

Feb 13, 2012, 4:53 AM | Updated: 12:02 pm

At the recommendation of Lakewood Police Chief Bret Farrar, City Manager Andrew Neiditz terminated a Lakewood police officer accused of embezzling from a fund for the family’s of his murdered fellow officers.

Skeeter Manos is accused of stealing more than $150,000 from the fund established for the families of the Lakewood 4. It turns out the former officer had a long history of debt problems.

Manos was having his paycheck garnished by collection agencies at the time he was in charge of the charity donations. The News Tribune reports three different agencies were taking money from his paycheck to settle debts that totaled more than $5,000.

Lakewood Police chief Bret Farrar said his office was never notified that collection agencies were taking money from his checks. In Lakewood, paperwork like that goes straight to the city’s finance department.

Officer Manos could face 20 years in federal prison if convicted.
