Rebecca Thornton has withdrawn from the Lynnwood City Council four days after being unanimously selected to fill a vacant seat.

Thornton told city officials of her decision just an hour before she was scheduled to be sworn in at the evening council meeting on Monday, according to city spokesperson Julie Moore speaking to The Everett Herald.

Thornton was chosen on Feb. 20 to replace former council vice president Julieta Altamirano-Crosby, who resigned in January to take a position as a commissioner for the Snohomish County Public Utility District.

“This decision was not made lightly, and I remain deeply committed to our community,” she said in a statement to The Everett Herald.

She cited personal reasons for the decision.

The Lynnwood City Council will vote again on March 10 to select a replacement from the remaining six finalists: Forrest Baum, Nazanin Lashgari, Robert Leutwyler, Marie MacCoy, Jessica Roberts and Chelsea Wright.
