One of the largest earthquakes in more than a decade shook Victoria, B.C. and portions of Western Washington.

The United States Geological Survey reports a 4.8 magnitude earthquake about 11 miles northeast of Victoria occurred just after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The quake was felt in 42 different cities, according to the USGS intensity map. Thousands of people reported feeling the quake.

Sarah Felger told KIRO TV that it woke her up on Whidbey Island.

“The whole house shook and everything on the walls rattled for what seemed like 10 seconds or so,” Felger said.

Subway services in Vancouver, B.C. were shut down overnight as a precaution, KIRO TV reports.

According to USGS, the earthquake was the largest since a magnitude 4.9 shook Newport, Ore.

There was plenty of response about the quake on social media as well.
