A “death investigation” on northbound I-5 in Seattle blocked downtown exits and forced traffic into the express lanes Tuesday morning.
NB 5 into downtown Seattle, you’ll need to take the C/D. WSP is putting all mainline traffic onto express lanes.

The drive from Sea-Tac to Seattle was as long as 1 hour and 40 minutes. The backup was about eight miles at its peak

Because the state switched the I-5 express lanes from southbound to northbound, traffic backed up from Northgate through downtown Seattle. There was a seven-mile backup on I-90 as well, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

I-5 reopened to traffic at 10:50 a.m.
NB 5 all lanes are now open! The backup will take a while to go away, but we're open again.
