Man found dead in Renton homeless camp met violent death

Aug 29, 2019, 5:03 PM | Updated: 5:06 pm

A man found dead in a Renton homeless camp on Tuesday is believed to have been the victim of violence.

Originally, investigators believed the man’s death was accidental. They discovered him among the remnants of a homeless camp in the 2000 block of Oakdale SW that caught fire.

On Thursday, investigators said it appears the man suffered several wounds not related to the fire and that he was deceased before the fire even reached his body. Police are not investigating the details of the wounds.

The man is described as white and about 5’5″ in height.

Police say three people were seen leaving the area shortly before the fire started, but no description was given.

Renton police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the victim or anyone who might have been in the area during the incident. Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound will pay a $1,000 cash reward.
