A good Samaritan was shot and killed as he tried to intervene in an armed robbery in White Center early Tuesday morning.
The shooting happened around 1:15 a.m., when a man in a red ski mask held up another man at gunpoint in the 10600 block of 14th Avenue SW, near Coronado Springs Apartments in White Center. But a third, 61-year-old man entered the situation and tried to stop the robbery.
“There was some sort of robbery that occurred with a separate victim and the shooting victim appears to have intervened in that robbery and got shot,” said Sergeant Stan Seo with the King County Sheriff’s Office.
The 61-year-old man was shot once in the chest. Seo said that the robbery victim and man who was shot knew each other.
“When deputies responded and found the victim they secured the scene and got aid in as quickly as they could,” Seo said.
A K-9 unit was called in to track the shooter.
“It appears the suspect was on foot,” Seo said. “And the K-9 tracker went through the location, but we were unsuccessful.”
The shooter remains at large. The Sheriff’s Office reports that the suspect is a black male, and was wearing a dark hoodie and shorts in addition to the red ski mask.
Anyone with information about the shooter is asked to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at (206) 296-4155.
