Seattle Police are still investigating after a deadly shooting on Capitol Hill early Sunday morning.
As hundreds wrapped up a Capitol Hill block party celebrating the victory of President-elect Joe Biden, gunfire rang out near 10th and East Pike around 1 a.m. Officers arrived to the scene to find a 31-year-old male victim. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center but later died from his injuries.
Since then, there’s been very little information from police, who have not announced a suspect.
A woman tells The Seattle Times the man killed was her son, a Black father of two who worked for the City of Seattle, and was out that night to be part of the celebration, despite warnings from family. The mother told the Times they don’t know if politics or bias had anything to do with the shooting – only that her son went because he wanted to be part of history.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Seattle Police Department’s Violent Crimes tip line at (206) 233-5000.
