Microsoft survey: Kids who cyber bully get bullied back

Jun 27, 2012, 2:16 PM | Updated: 5:28 pm

Cyber bullying is an issue facing most school-aged kids in the U.S. According to Microsoft, it’s a problem around the world, offline and online.

Microsoft undertook a survey to find out how common cyber bullying was world-wide. While the numbers across the board showed a prevalence in online disrespect, kids most often reported being bullied in the offline world.

When it came to online troubles, the results of the kids surveyed showed that that kids often ‘get what the give.’ Kids that were surveyed were more likely to be bullied if they were bullying someone else online and more likely to be bullied if they spent more than 10 hours a week on the Internet.

The survey found that parents weren’t necessarily involved in the protecting their kids online, either. Fifty percent of kids said their parents talked to them about online risks, while only 44 percent of children said their parents monitored their time spent on the computer.
