Mukilteo man charged with beating, starving 10-year-old sister

Oct 30, 2012, 10:10 AM | Updated: 10:23 am

Prosecutors have charged a Mukilteo man with beating and starving his 10-year-old adopted sister.

Police waited until after Derron Alexis’ girlfriend had been convicted of beating and starving his young sister before charging him with the same crimes.

Prosecutors say Alexis, 43, starved his sister so severely she weighed only 51 pounds when she was taken from the couple’s home. She was also covered with scars and wounds.

The girl was taken from the couple’s home after store employees called Child Protective Services.

The Everett Herald reports they wanted to wait to charge him in the case until after his girlfriend was prosecuted. She faces decades in prison when sentenced next month.

Alexis is accused of beating the girl with a belt, withholding food, and medicine and other necessities.
