Tacoma-based MultiCare Health System announced Tuesday that it is laying off 138 employees across the state.
The separations are expected to begin on Oct. 27, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing.
The notice said “changing business needs” are behind the decision to close the following six locations:
- Eye Center Valley (Spokane Valley)
- Eye Center Northpointe (Spokane)
- Optical Center (Spokane)
- Rockwood Access Clinic (Spokane)
- Rockwood Dermatology (Spokane)
- Rockwood Nephrology (Spokane)
Twenty-seven other locations across the state are impacted by these cuts, including Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma.
Workers will be given at least 60 days’ advance notice.
Since it was founded in Tacoma in 1882, MultiCare Health has grown to operate 13 hospitals in Washington.
