New Yorker says Big Apple couldn’t care less about Seahawks, Seattle

With the Seahawks coming to town and the Mariners luring Robinson Cano to Seattle, you’d think New Yorkers would have plenty of interest in what’s going on in the Emerald City. But a popular sports talk show host tells the Tom and Curley Show you’d be wrong.

“For the most part, we don’t really care about Seattle. No offense, but you’re just not on our radar,” says Evan Roberts with WFAN in New York.

Roberts says there’s no jealousy when it comes to our fair city, with most considering us inferior. And many New Yorkers just don’t understand how Cano could leave the city that never sleeps for sleepy Seattle.

“We’re very bitter that the best player in New York, and Cano is that good, decided to leave for Seattle,” he says. “They don’t understand how a guy could take $90 million more to leave them, they don’t understand that.”

As for the Seahawks, Roberts considers them the best team in the NFL and expects to see them back in the Big Apple for the Super Bowl. But he says he can’t stand Pete Carroll. Part of it stems from Carroll’s less than stellar tenure as the coach of the New York Jets, and part is his cheery demeanor and non-stop enthusiasm.

“He’s kind of obnoxious on the sidelines. I mean it’s like I’m watching a cheerleader on the sidelines,” he says. “It’s everything. It’s the fact that the guy’s old and he looks like he’s 35 years old. There’s no way I’m going to look as good as Pete Carroll when I’m his age, so I’m jealous.”

Roberts predicts a 35-13 Seahawks cakewalk over the Giants Sunday at Met Life Stadium, saying the home team has pretty much “rolled over” in a mediocre season that sees them far out of the playoff picture and just finishing out the string at 5-8.
