No charge for dad accused of giving kids meth-laced cookies

A Des Moines man will not face charges for giving his young children cookies laced with methamphetamine, the King County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday.

Chad M. Holm, 37, will face a charge of second-degree perjury in a separate case for allegedly falsifying a drug test in family court.

According to a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, there is no evidence at this time that Holm was the one who put meth in the pink frosted cookies he made for his children, then ages 5 and 7. A lab test proved that remnants of the frosting contained meth and the children subsequently tested positive for the drug, according to court documents.

” … we are unable to file charges at this time against Mr. Holm or his girlfriend for providing the methamphetamine to the children because we cannot prove the chain of custody of how the meth was placed in the cookies, who made the cookies and who, when, where or how the meth was given to the children,” Ian Goodhew wrote in an email Thursday.

Detectives said Holm may have tainted the cookies in order to derail a custody battle with his ex-wife and mother of the children, who also ate one of the treats and subsequently failed a voluntary drug test.

Holm is scheduled to be arraigned on the perjury charge May 2.
