If the Earth is aligned properly during a solar storm, the Northern Lights could be visible in areas of Western Washington through Thursday.
A Moderate Geomagnetic Storm Watch was issued by the National Weather Service.
KIRO 7 Meteorologist Morgan Palmer says the event “doesn’t look like a major solar storm.” The aurora may only be visible across northern sections of the region, away from city lights.
“Still, the Alaska Geophysical Institute is presently predicting a maximum K-index of 6 Wednesday and Thursday,” Palmer writes. Which means there’s still a chance Northern Lights could be visible farther south.
Though the Northern Lights may be visible through Thursday, Wednesday is expected to be cloudy for at least part of the day.
