Officers hurt breaking up mother, daughter fight

Two Ocean Shores women have been jailed for assault after fighting, kicking and even biting officers who tried to arrest them.

Police say the 42 and 24-year-old women had been drinking and fighting with other people during the day. Tuesday night, they began fighting each other. A responding officer saw that the daughter was the aggressor, so he tried to arrest her.

“As soon as he did that, the mother decided to intervene and jumped into the melee, all three of them collapsing down to the ground into a pile,” said Deputy Chief Russ Fitts.

As the officer tried to put handcuffs on the younger woman, her mother put the officer in a headlock using her legs and began to choke him. “He actually had to free his hands to open up his airway and let go of the daughter, who at that time got up to her feet and proceeded to kick him four times in the head,” said Fitts.

One officer suffered a concussion and another was treated for a bite wound. Both were taken to a hospital.

Off-duty Oceans Shores officers were called to help as well as officers from the county sheriff’s office and a nearby city.

The women were booked into jail for investigation of felony assault. Chief Pitts said when the 24-year-old woman was placed under arrest, she told the officer, “You’re not my father, you can’t tell me what to do.”
