One man is in custody and no one was hurt following a shooting inside the Macy’s department store at the Everett Mall Tuesday afternoon.
Everett Police spokesman Aaron Snell says the suspect got into an altercation with loss prevention agents in the store following a shoplifting incident and fired one shot.
Snell says the employees gained control of the 26-year-old Everett man’s handgun and held him for police, who swarmed to the mall after receiving numerous 911 calls about the gunshot.
The police spokesman says the arrested man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries suffered during the fight. Snell says the loss prevention agents were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Both the gun and the bullet have been recovered.
The Macy’s remained closed into the early evening pending an investigation. Other stores at the Everett Mall remained open following the shooting.
