One person killed in fiery crash on I-5 near DuPont

Dec 16, 2013, 11:30 AM | Updated: Dec 17, 2013, 10:25 am

The Washington State Patrol says one person was killed in a fiery crash that blocked two southbound lanes of I-5 south of Tacoma near DuPont for nearly 11 hours on Monday.

State troopers say three vehicles were involved. A pickup truck crossed over from the northbound lanes of I-5 into the southbound lanes hitting a box van and semi-truck.

The driver of the semi-truck was killed.

Trooper Guy Gill says the two people in the box van credit seat belts for saving their lives. They both walked away.

Traffic was backed up for 14 miles during the height of the evening commute while crews struggled to clean up the mess and haul away the tangled semi-truck.

KIRO Radio listener pinkfox253 posted the below video showing the truck in flames.
