MyNorthwest’s June 22 overnight crime roundup: $400,000 stolen, hit and run turned kidnapping

MyNorthwest reports on overnight crime in the Puget Sound region on the morning of June 22: $400,000 stolen from a storage unit, a hit and run turned kidnapping, a homicide in a Ballard encampment, and human remains found in University District.

$400,000 stolen in Lynnwood

In Lynnwood, two male suspects broke into a storage unit and stole hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of collectibles.

Approximately $400,000 worth of comic books, baseball cards, and other memorabilia were stolen from a CubeSmart storage unit located at 19331 Highway 99.

Two vehicles are potentially involved in the crime, one of which has been identified as a green Dodge Ram truck.

Hit and run turned kidnapping in Pioneer Square

Around 1:00 a.m. June 18, the driver of a silver Laramie Edition Ram truck ran over a woman east of the intersection of 1st avenue south and South Washington Street in Pioneer Square.

The driver, identified as a man, initially fled the scene but returned to pick up the woman and put her in the cab of the truck, before driving east.

The truck did not have license plates, but photos show a silver U-bolt on the car hitch and a local area dealership license plate frame.

Ballard Encampment Homicide

Detectives are investigating the death of a 37-year-old man found dead in an encampment in Ballard.

Police responded to reports of a deceased person June 18 around 12:30 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene firefighters reported the man was deceased and life-saving measures were not possible.

The King County Medical Examiners Office later determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound that was not immediately visible at the scene.

Homicide detectives have since opened an investigation into the incident.

Remains found in University District

Human remains were found Monday at approximately 2:30 p.m. in a greenbelt in the University of Washington Police jurisdiction, and SPD was contacted.

The remains were found in a greenbelt alongside Ravenna Avenue and Northeast 45th Street.

King County Medical Examiners Office identified the victim as a 56-year-old woman who had gone missing.

The case is ongoing and no suspects have been identified at this time.
