Pacific mayor walks out of council meeting

Pacific Mayor Cy Sun walked out of the city’s most important council meeting Monday night where the future of the 103-year-old city was on the table. Mayor Sun has been blamed for ruining the city in his less than a year in office.

So many people wanted to give Mayor Sun a piece of their minds Monday night that the council meeting had to be moved to a school gymnasium to handle the crowd. It was obvious from the beginning they were going to let the mayor have it.

“The mayor has to resign or quit or something, and everybody that agrees with me, I wish they would stand up and show their hands for the news media,” one man said.

Mayor Sun asked the crowd to sit down and be quiet, and then he walked out of the room, so the council was left to decide what to do.

Pacific is about to lose its insurance because the carrier believes the mayor is too unpredictable and the city is too risky to cover.

There’s an upcoming vote on whether to dissolve as a city, and a plan to be annexed into neighboring Auburn is on the table. That’s something that residents do not want to see happen.

“Failure is not an option,” one resident shouted.

The council put off a decision on annexation until next week. Council president Leanne Guier told KING 5 there is a lot to discuss.

“What does Pacific look like if we become part of Auburn,” she asked. “What does it do to the taxes and revenue?”

The Auburn City Council also met Monday. It approved the steps needed to research annexation in more detail.
