It’s going to cost you more for parking on the street in most parts of Seattle.

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) reports their new rates begin today.

Someone paid $56,000 for their own Seattle parking spot

This is the last of three rate hikes planned for this year. SDOT said the new prices are based on parking data and seasonable trends and vary by time of day.

“If we see a block with no parking available, we increase the rate slightly,” Ethan Bergerson, SDOT spokesman said.

SDOT’s goal is to have one or two parking spots open on each block to support businesses and to help drivers find spots without having to circle blocks multiple times.

Denny Triangle South will see the largest rate increase going from $4 to $5 an hour.

About one-third, 36 of 90, total locations and times are changing. Along with downtown, Ballard, Capitol Hill, and the University District rates are being adjusted.

There is some good news, six locations will see the rate decrease. Find the latest parking rates across the city.
