Pierce County investigating homicide near Mount Rainier

Detectives were called to a crime scene five miles up a forest service road off of Highway 410 early Wednesday morning.
The caller to 911 said he had just shot his friend after the friend had pulled a knife.
“They were at a casino earlier gambling, and then they went to a party, and then somehow or another they got into some type of conflict,” said Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. “How they ended up clear up there in the mountains is yet to be determined.”
“The preliminary information is that after he shot the other person he was going to take the car and body up there and dump it, and he changed his mind and called 911,” said Troyer.
Troyer said they have the shooter in custody. He said both men have long criminal histories.
