After Pierce County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a fire at a residence near the Parkland-Spanaway precinct on Thursday, a dog trapped in the house has been saved.

When the deputy first arrived, witnesses told her a man was trying to go back inside the residence to save his dog, Pookey. The deputy knew it was too dangerous for the man to go back inside, and as the deputy rushed to the door herself, a burst of flames came from the house. She helped the man get to safety and consoled him as he was “deeply concerned” about his dog, according to a Facebook post from the PCSD.

Once Central Pierce fire fighters arrived on scene, they went into the residence to search for the dog. Thankfully, they found Pookey and rescued him from the flames.

Pookey was given oxygen and is expected to be “just fine.”
