Pierce County is expected to become the first county in the state to protect shooting ranges from legal action over noise and nuisance complaints.
Gun clubs in the county worry that as more housing developments move closer to their ranges that residents will complain and try to shut them down.
The News Tribune reports the Pierce County council is expected to adopt a measure Tuesday evening that would prevent existing ranges from being sued over noise or nuisance complaints.
It would cover five ranges in unincorporated parts of the county, including the sheriff’s office range in Roy.
If approved, the ranges would be exempt from decibel limits and subject only to the noise and nuisance regulations at the time they opened.
