Police: 3 people dead, 5 injured in early Sunday shootings in Seattle

In a span of three hours early Sunday morning, three people were killed and five injured in a series of shootings in the downtown Seattle area.
In a video posted at 5:45 a.m. to Twitter, interim Chief Adrian Diaz explains that early Sunday shootings in Belltown, Pioneer Square, and the Chinatown-International District left three people dead and four people injured. Seattle Police said officers were responding to an additional shooting at Cal Anderson with multiple victims while Chief Diaz was recording the update.
Seattle police later said they learned it’s possible one of the deaths was reported twice, bringing the actual fatalities to two.
“Officers responded to multiple shootings and shots fired tonight,” Diaz said in the video. “At 1:48, officers responded to First and Blanchard regarding a fight disturbance, which ended up resulting in a shooting. We have one deceased at that location.”
Police arrested two of the suspects in this incident on Sunday. One person was booked into King County Jail for investigation of homicide and another for aiming/discharging a weapon.
About 40 minutes later, at 2:32 a.m., a second shooting was reported, this time at Second Avenue and South Washington Street.
“During the investigation of that (first incident), officers responded to Second and South Washington, where we had over 300 people letting out from a nightclub,” Diaz said. “We had multiple shootings occur at this location. We had five total victims, two are deceased.”
The address of the nightclub Diaz referred to corresponds with the Trinity Nightclub. The club’s manager told the Seattle Times that its patrons were not involved in the shooting and kept indoors until gunfire ended.
A third shooting was reported near 12th Avenue South and South Main Street. This shooting actually occurred around 1:40 a.m., but the female victim did not arrive to a Bellevue hospital until about 3:30 a.m. She experienced a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the stomach.
“Officers responded to 12th and South Main where we had a victim also show up later at the hospital,” Diaz says in the video.
The fourth shooting was reported around 4:40 a.m. when several people heard gunshots at Cal Anderson Park. A man arrived at Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound. He said he had been shot at the park after playing in a basketball game, and then took a rideshare car to the hospital.
“Tonight we’ve had seven total victims, three deceased,” Diaz continued. “This is what we’ve been talking about, the uptick in gun violence for 2020 into 2021. We’ve got to figure out a way to get the guns off the streets.”

Susan Gregg, a spokesperson for Harborview Medical Center, told the Seattle Times that three male patients were treated for gun shot wounds at the hospital. One of those men, who was shot at Pioneer Square, had died. A fourth man, who was injured at Cal Anderson Park, arrived from Swedish Medical Center. He and a fifth man, who walked into the emergency room, are in satisfactory condition.
In a post on the SPD Blotter, police clarify that three people died and five were injured. Detectives are investigating all the incidents and ask anyone with information to call the Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
