Seattle police detectives are trying to figure out why a man was shot several times in the leg near a Queen Anne park early Saturday morning.

Just before 2:00 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting near Bhy Kracke Park, on 5th Ave. N., about six blocks north of the Seattle Center.

When they arrived, they found disabled vehicle with two people inside.

Officers conducted what they call a “high-risk stop,” and discovered one of the occupants of the vehicle, an adult male, had been shot several times in the leg.

Police gave the man first aid until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived and took over.

They transported the man shot to Harborview Medical Center in serious, but stable, condition.

Investigators say several people were in the area and they are now interviewing some of those witnesses.

Police say some of them stayed at the scene during the shooting.

Others took off after hearing the gunfire, but then came back after police arrived and things had calmed down.

Officers recovered some evidence at the scene.

Among the items found, a Glock pistol.

Investigators say the handgun had been modified to fire as a fully-automatic weapon.

Officers transported several individuals to police headquarters where they were interviewed by investigators.

Detectives are reviewing the evidence and questioning several people, but as of Saturday afternoon, no one had been arrested as a suspect.

Members of the Seattle Police Department’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit are working to figure out what the circumstances were that led to the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Seattle Police Department Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.
