A King County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a 18-year-old man who was allegedly reaching for an AR-15 rifle inside a stolen vehicle on Thursday morning.
Sergeant Ryan Abbott says the deputy was on a routine patrol when he saw a car parked illegally across handicapped spaces inside the Kent Station parking garage.
“There was a big struggle for the gun,” Sgt Abbott said. “The deputy struggled with him inside of the vehicle. And then the suspect got out of the vehicle and they continued to struggle with the rifle.”
Abbott added that the rifle was loaded.
The suspect died in the hospital. Two other suspects, ages 18 and 21, were arrested and booked at the Regional Justice Center for Investigation of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
KIRO 7’s Michael Spears reports the deputy was part of the Sound Transit division. The deputy is a 28-year veteran of the department.
