Police: Seattle taxi cab driver pistol-whipped

Dec 13, 2013, 11:06 AM | Updated: 11:24 am

Seattle Police say a taxi cab driver was pistol-whipped after picking up a man who flagged him down early Friday.

As the two men were talking near the intersection of 12th Avenue South and South Main Street around 3 a.m. two other men got into the cab and demanded the driver’s money.

The suspects began “pistol-whipping” the victim before he was able to jump out and run away. Police say they stole the driver’s phone and GPS unit and got into two separate vehicles waiting nearby.

Police stopped a Chevy Caprice with five men inside and the victim was able to positively identify the main suspect in the group. Officers found two handguns (one reported stolen) and the stolen GPS unit inside.

The 21-year-old suspect was taken to the East Precinct while the other four people were identified and released from the scene. Police say the suspect tried to get rid of a bag of suspected methamphetamine while in his cell.
