Feb 16, 2014, 6:02 PM | Updated: 10:48 pm

Police shot a 34-year-old man suspected of shooting two Camano Island residents and then leading state troopers on a high-speed chase along I-5 that ended in Mukilteo Sunday afternoon.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the incident started around 3:30 p.m. when Island County Sheriff’s detectives called Stanwood police to ask for help looking for a suspect in a double shooting in the 500 block of Michelle Dr. on Camano Island.

A state trooper spotted the suspect’s vehicle on Hwy 532 and started pursuing him onto southbound I-5. Police say speeds reached 100 mph before the suspect got onto Hwy 526. The suspect’s car veered off the roadway in the 5300 block of 88th St SW.

The investigation continues, but police have confirmed shots were fired and the suspect was hit. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center and his condition is unknown.

Police say the two people shot on Camano Island were a 44-year-old man, who is in critical condition, and an adult female whose condition is unknown.

Four law enforcement officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure, for their role in the shooting.
