Police: Suspected arsonist arrested after several fires in North Seattle

Nov 21, 2018, 9:15 AM

Police arrested a man suspected of setting at least eight fires in North Seattle on Tuesday morning.

Police said at about 5:30 a.m., witnesses called 911 to report fires in neighborhoods near Green Lake.

The first fire happened outside a Phinney Ridge home, where a small pile of leaves was set on fire. The second fire destroyed a shed and scorched a Wallingford home. There were four additional fires that police say were set around Green Lake Park, which damaged trees and a nearby outhouse.

Just before 7 a.m., police spotted the suspect in Green Lake Park and chased him on foot.

The 34-year-old man was taken into custody.

Police said they found another three sites that they say had been prepped to be burned.

He was booked into the King County Jail on suspicion of arson, burglary and a felony warrant.
