Popular Kirkland beach closed for fecal contamination

Kirkland’s Juanita Beach Park is closing at least through next week because of sewage pollution found in the waters of Lake Washington.

The city said it found a high level of fecal coliform bacteria, which is not likely to be from humans but is a sign of sewage pollution.

The city is urging people and pets to stay out of the contaminated water as they monitor the water quality.

Animals like dogs and water birds can also contribute to the bacteria growth.
