The rumors are true. The Postal Service will deliver again. Seattle’s Sub Pop announced Tuesday the million-selling collaboration of Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello will reunite this spring to celebrate their universally acclaimed release, “Give Up”, and play live for the first time in a decade.
Sub Pop says The “Give Up” Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition will include the original 10-track album along with 15 bonus tracks. It will include two brand new songs “Turn Around” and “A Tattered Line of String,” a previously unreleased live recording, and every other official recording the band has ever released. It’ll also feature cover versions of Postal Service classics by The Shins and Iron & Wine.
No tour dates have been announced, but numerous reports say the Postal Service will play California’s Coachella Festival, and a source tells me there will be a number of other shows. No word yet if singer Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley fame – who sang on the original recordings and performed with the group – will join Gibbard and Tamborello onstage again.
The “Give Up” Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition will be available as a two CD, 3 LP and digitally on April 8 in the UK and Europe and April 9 in North America via Sub Pop.
“Give Up” has sold 1,067,087 copies in the U.S. to date and was certified platinum last year. It’s the second-highest selling album in Sub Pop’s nearly 25-year history, surpassed only by Nirvana’s “Bleach.”
