After a weekend of hail, heavy rain, and even light snowflakes, the Puget Sound region’s weather is calming down.

According to KIRO 7 meteorologist Nick Allard, the region is expected to dry out through Monday with “increasing sunshine” into the afternoon. That sunny weather will likely stick around through Wednesday, before light showers return on Thursday.

On Sunday, hail and rain fell in areas across the Puget Sound region and wind left tree branches scattered across roadways.

The National Weather Service in Seattle on Sunday recorded a wind gust of 59 mph in Port Townsend around 3 p.m. and measured winds of 50-60 mph near the Strait of Juan De Fuca. A gust of 44 mph, along with rain and ice pellets, was recorded on Whidbey Island.

Winds eased overnight, with no major power outages reported.

A wet snow-rain mix and small hail was spotted Sunday afternoon in parts of north King County and in Snohomish County.

As an added note, snow in Seattle in April is very rare. According to Allard, only three times has at least an inch of snow fallen in the region in April, most recently in 1972, and previously in 1924 and 1895.
