A teen who allegedly attacked his grandmother with a machete was found dead in Lake Washington Monday afternoon.

A 57-year-old woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center after she was stabbed in the Rainier Beach area of Seattle Monday. The victim called 911 herself to report the incident. She was stable when medics transported her to the hospital, Seattle Fire said.

The suspect in the stabbing is her 16-year-old grandson, according to Seattle police.

Police were called to the scene in the 9700 block of 57th Avenue South shortly after noon. Seattle police deployed a K-9 unit to search for the suspect. SPD also received assistance searching for the suspect from Renton and Tukwila police along with the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told Seattle police that the teen suspect was seen entering the waters of Lake Washington after the stabbing incident. Police combed areas near beach homes and docks. Two officers were armed with rifles, according to KIRO 7.

After the stabbing, the teen reportedly entered the waters of Lake Washington, still armed with the machete. SPD’s harbor patrol searched the shoreline and discovered the teen’s body under the water around 1:36 p.m. He was deceased.

It is unknown how he died. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
