More than 167,000 pounds of raw pork, beef, and goat products recalled over false USDA inspection labels

More than 167,000 pounds of raw pork, beef, and goat products were recalled Tuesday after they were distributed without federal inspection and bore labels with a false U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) mark of inspection.

Any products from Star Meat Delivery that bear the false establishment number “EST. 1363” should be considered misbranded and unsafe to eat, according to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

All the raw meat products were produced on various dates before Sept. 22 and were vacuum-sealed and packed into cardboard boxes for shipment, while individual consumer packages may not include proper labeling, and retail stores may have applied their own stickers with pricing and safe-handling instructions.

Uninspected meat could contain harmful bacteria, allergens, or other contaminants, FSIS warns

A complete list of the recalled products is available here, distributed in bulk under the A&D Foods label. The items were shipped to A&D Foods, a Georgia distributor, for further distribution to retail and restaurant locations across the nation.

FSIS initially discovered the labeling inconsistency during surveillance activities. There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury due to the consumption of these products, as of this reporting.

Anyone who is concerned about an illness or injury should contact their healthcare provider.

FSIS noted that food produced without an inspection could contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk. The department is concerned that some of the products subject to the recall may be in refrigerators or freezers of consumers, restaurants, or retailers.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled meat are urged not to consume the products. Retailers and restaurants are also urged not to sell or serve the products. The recalled meat should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
