A 12-year-old boy is dead after he accidentally hanged himself on a zipline in the backyard of his family’s home outside of Redmond, the King County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Police and paramedics were called to the home in the 8800 block of 255th NE after Jackson Roos’ mother found him dangling roughly 20 feet off the ground.
Roos was pronounced dead at the scene.
“I can tell you that it is not only devastating for the family here, but it is also devastating for the first responders; the fire personnel and the police officers that arrived and tried to revive this boy,” said Sergeant Cindi West.
According to West, the zipline was commercial grade, not homemade.
She said the death appears to be accidental, but the Major Crimes Unit will be called it to determine how the boy got caught up in the wire.
