It’s finally spring, and with the warmer weather comes construction season and the next phase of rehabilitation work on I-5 in Seattle.
WSDOT crews will launch the next phase of “Revive I-5” this week.
After weekend construction was postponed due to inclement weather, this week’s construction will shut down and reroute all all lanes of the southbound I-5 collector-distributor at Airport Way on Monday, from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
Also closing during that time will be the James Street/6th Avenue South on-ramp to southbound I-5, and the Edgar Martinez Drive/4th Avenue South on-ramp to southbound I-5.
Starting Tuesday and ending early Friday, expect the following closures (subject to change due to weather):
- All lanes of southbound I-5 mainline just south of James Street, 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
- Westbound I-90 on-ramp to southbound I-5, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Edgar Martinez Drive/4th Avenue South on-ramp to southbound I-5, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
That will lead right into Saturday and early Sunday, when those same lanes and ramps will also be closed from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. The southbound I-5 mainline south of James Street will be closed from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Crews will repair and replace damaged concrete panels, grind the surface of pavement in all lanes, and repave several ramps, according to a press release from WSDOT.
Travelers who use southbound I-5 through downtown during the late night and early morning hours should find alternate routes or expect delays.
