For a guy who never lacks for something to say, the Seahawks Richard Sherman was strangely silent after Sunday’s surprising loss to San Diego and a lot of people are upset about it.

Sherman refused to speak to media following the 30-21 defeat that saw quarterback Philip Rivers go 4-4 for 56 yards to receivers going directly at the All-Pro cornerback.

While Sherman dodged reporters, several Chargers told the press they had “exposed” Sherman.

“He’s just a normal guy,” receiver Keenan Allen said of Sherman. “We can go at him. We took some shots at him. We are not going to shy away from him. He’s not really a shutdown corner. We definitely wanted to come out and show we could go any way we wanted to and that we were in control of the game.”

Sherman did respond on Twitter, disputing the characterization in typical fashion:

While he was defending his own play on Twitter, other Seahawks including standouts KJ Wright and Earl Thomas didn’t shy away from giving the Chargers credit, with Wright acknowledging they just plain got beat.

“They kicked our ass and beat us at our own game. It was just a poor defensive game today for us,” Wright said afterwards.

KIRO Radio’s Don O’Neill is calling out Sherman for not speaking up and taking responsibility for the defense’s struggles in the game.

“I think that’s a bunch of crap,” O’Neill says. “Richard Sherman got paid last year by running his mouth all the time and what he should do is take the loss and protect some of those younger guys that didn’t have a very good game.”

O’Neill says given his visibility and role on the team, Sherman should have acted more like a leader and not dodged the difficult post-game questions about the team’s play, as well as his own.

Sherman’s Twitter feed remained silent Monday, but critics have been having a field day on social media, calling him out both for the loss along with his sudden reticence.

Should Sherman have spoken with media following the game, or do you think he handled the loss and criticism of his play properly?
