Sea-Tac Airport unveiling driverless shuttle for light rail transportation

Jul 24, 2025, 4:00 PM | Updated: 6:55 pm

For those who use the Light Rail to get to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac), many feel the worst part is the long walk between the light rail station and the terminal.

Sea-Tac has provided a solution for this troublesome trek: a pilot program that tests a new driverless shuttle for travelers, making the hike easier and more accommodating, especially for those with a lot of luggage.

“During the testing phase, an engineer will ride along in the shuttle car just to monitor everything,” Eric Thomas, news anchor and reporter for KIRO 7, said. “Right now, they are mapping out the space to get it ready for those test runs.”

The program will last 90 days to assess the viability of a driverless shuttle.

There will be updates provided by Sea-Tac regarding the success of the pilot program.
