A lot of people get to the airport with their beautifully wrapped Christmas presents, only to find they have to rip the paper off to get through security. But at Sea-Tac Airport, there’s now help on the other side.
For the second year, volunteers from USO Northwest will be running a special gift-wrapping station inside the central terminal once you get through security.
The service is free. The Port of Seattle pays for the paper, and travelers are encouraged to make a donation to the USO.
“I think we made almost $3,000 wrapping gifts in an eight-day period,” says Donald Leingang, USO Northwest’s executive director. “When you look at the the 600,000 we take care of every year, every little bit is not only appreciated it helps immensely.”
The gift wrapping station is open from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m through Dec. 24.
The gift wrapping is just one of several holiday offerings at the airport this year. The annual Holiday Entertainment Program features live holiday music, parades, puppetry, souvenir giveaways and other activities.
Passenger traffic is expected to start picking up later this week, with an estimated 110,000 passengers coming through this Friday. The airport expects over 100,000 passengers a day to fly on Sunday, Tuesday, and again on Dec. 26.
The least traveled days are expected to be Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
