Seattle City Light apologizes for delays on I-5 near Southcenter

Seattle City Light is apologizing for causing long backups on northbound I-5 Monday morning.
The utility says it was trying to wrap up work on a project to upgrade towers for transmission and distribution lines that cross the freeway.
The work took longer than expected and the cones weren’t cleared from the I-5 lanes until about 6:15 a.m.
It was too late. Commuters spent nearly 90 minutes getting from Federal Way to Seattle.
Seattle City Light says a pulley used to pull the new lines into place locked up and the hydraulic system on the large bucket truck crews were using sprang a leak.
“We apologize to all commuters who were affected by the delay,” Seattle City Light said on its website.
