Seattle forum to answer questions about selling pot

The only marijuana trade association in the country is hopeful that federal authorities will allow Washington to set up a reasonable and responsible system of rules and regulations for selling marijuana.
“The federal government has allowed medical cannabis systems of one sort or another in 18 states to try to find their way in a limited, state legal system,” Betty Aldworth, deputy director of the National Cannabis Industry Association told Seattle’s Morning News.
The organization hosts a panel discussion Monday night with Mayor Mike McGinn at the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle.
On its website, the group says its membership is comprised of “the leading businesses and organizations in America’s emerging cannabis industry.” Among its goals: protecting legitimate business, ensuring banking access for medical marijuana providers and promoting fair tax policy.
A lot of people wonder how the sale of recreational marijuana in Washington will work. Aldworth, conceded there’s no framework in place for regulating legal pot sales. But she pointed out we can look to the rules for selling alcohol and medicinal marijuana.
“Using the lessons from those two businesses, I think that the [state] Liquor Control Board can create an excellent framework for adult-use sales of marijuana.
People who want to get into the business of selling legal marijuana could get some expert advice at Monday night’s forum, which includes a question and answer period.
