Seattle hotter than Miami, Honolulu

The Pacific Northwest is entering what is likely to be some of, if not the, hottest weather we will see this year as temperatures rise to potentially record-breaking levels.

Temperatures are expected to reach at least the mid-90s Friday and Saturday, the National Weather Service reports. Surprisingly enough, Seattle will experience temperatures that many cities won’t come close to.

It reached 94 degrees in Seattle by 3 p.m. on Friday, according to KIRO 7 meteorologist Morgan Palmer. So how does that compare to other cities known for their hot temps?

Los Angeles: 76
Honolulu: 81
Birmingham: 83
New York City: 85
Austin, Texas: 87
Miami: 89

But Washington isn’t alone in this heat wave and anyone dreading the sweat-filled weekend can be appreciative that they are not in Portland. The City of Roses was forecast to hit 98 degrees Friday afternoon.

An Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for much of the Northwest, mostly in the interior lowlands, through Saturday evening.

The Heat Watch is why there is now a burn ban in effect for the entire state through Sept. 30. The Washington State Department of Natural Resources says the increased heat and forecast wind make the next few weeks the most dangerous for fire this year.

If you’re hoping relief from the heat will come sooner than later, you’re in luck. Temperatures will start to drop Saturday night. The National Weather Service reports temps will be in the mid-70s early next week.

The latter part of August and September should include several days with temperatures in the 70s and lower 80s.
